Will Social Media + AI + Data Analyst means the death of Opposition Parties in Singapore?

For those of you that have been living under a rock, or still in the 2000s, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is here, and for real. It is no longer an abstract idea on white papers, or sci-fi plot device for moviemakers use to make action movies. People are worried about its impact on jobs, and business.
On deeper thoughts, and when working with the other major pillars of IT. Believe it or not, the biggest area of biggest impact will be politics and the constitution of our nation. Just looks at the numbers, by 2018, it is estimated the number of Facebook users in Singapore will grow to 3.16 Million, and we are a nation that stands at 5.47million, the number is the majority of 57.7%. This means the government and the ruling party will have access to the likes, and dislikes of the 57.7% of Singaporeans, and able to craft speeches and “election policies” to match the needs of majority of the voters. We will have to argue it is a fallacy argument, as the PAP already has massive resources, and they are still unable to convert every Singaporean to vote for PAP. How could AI bring such massive conversion? How can it practically wipe up the opposition? The answer is with the alignment of different branches of technologies with Social Media and Data Analyst. As the population is sharing and posting their views and thoughts on social media, the AI with specific connectors and algorithms would connect to the different social media source, data analyst algorithm will analyze Singaporeans’ social media posts and their response to government policies and PAP candidates. It will also filter the electorates’ gender, age group, interest, income, and profession, web browsing history, residential areas, and their responses to counter arguments from opposition parties’. The AI will craft key notes for the PAP politician. These keynotes could be used in interaction with residents, parliament speeches, rallies speeches and even posting of Social Media. The AI will also provide reports on individuals, this will allow the PAP politicians to refine their approach, the AI will give recommended approaches towards these disgruntled individuals, a technique known as micro-targeting. Sound farfetched? It is not, In the US presidential election for 2016 and UK 2017, it is an open secret that bots and AI were used for posting information and news to manipulate public opinion. With other working example such as Siri and AI lawyer ROSS already contain a human interaction function, and this is just a glimpse on how AI can exploited. To hold on the grip of power, it will continue to require a human face to be the representation of the party, and connect with the voters. With such a formidable piece of machinery that will not abandon PAP at any price, it is hard to see how Opposition Parties can survival in Singapore. Some of us would argue that if PAP can build such an Application, Oppositions could do that too. This had boiled down to 2 reasons, situational and historical reason. Firstly, Opposition Parties had been trying too hard at emulating PAP, and only recruit elite professionals to its leadership ranks; Lawyers, Accountants, and Academics. Leadership in the opposition held the view that Information Technology is a niche industry, and do not fully understand that building a complex AI engine require inputs from Data Scientists, IT evangelist, IT infrastructure engineers, and AI developers. Opposition parties have little contact with such individual, and even less in its leadership rank, they have no insight into how this technology can be used, and how to exploit them. Secondly, historically, opposition party is more interested to get people for hands and legs work to do house visits, and give out flyers, the opposition believe that was how they had won Aljunied GRC and Hougang SMC in GE2011, and Punggol East By-election, and is very resistant to any changes to channel of interaction. We can sum it up to say, the opposition leadership will fail, and in the long run opposition parties in Singapore will disappear, because the alternative parties did not realize the biggest threat to their political existence was not the PAP or the lack of support from electorates, but the rise of the machines.

New Blog

This is a new blog. I had delete my old blogs cause I feel that they are not me. A lot of it are not based on my interests, and it is hard to maintain something that is not of high interest level.

So i decide to start afresh, delete the old blog which discussed a mainly politics, to topics that i have interest in such as Muay Thai, Netball, Project Management, Enterprise IT, Aikido, BJJ, Travel, Spanish, and of course politics. This new blog will a continuation of the old blog, but it will focus on topics that interest me, unlike the old blog which was an observation of current affairs.

Hopefully, my new blog will have a smoother flow compare to my old blog.
